Men's Work with Ryan T. Schmidt
My men’s work is rooted in presence, honesty, ritual, nature, Council, grief work, and the lifelong practice of becoming a more grounded, compassionate, and generative human being. I believe men need spaces where they can step outside the noise of performance, isolation, competition, and expectation in order to tell the truth about their lives and listen more deeply to the lives of others.
Through my involvement with Illuman of Texas & Oklahoma and related retreat work, I help create spaces where men can slow down, gather in circle, reconnect with the natural world, and explore the deeper questions of masculinity, meaning, shadow, grief, power, vulnerability, and purpose. This work may include ritual, silence, solitude, story, drumming, small group Council, contemplative practice, time in nature, embodied reflection, and teachings on archetype, initiation, and mature masculinity.
I am especially interested in helping men learn how to create and hold meaningful ritual and ceremony space for themselves, their families, their communities, and other men. At its heart, this work is about belonging — to ourselves, to one another, to the earth, and to the larger mystery of being alive — so that men can become more present, honest, compassionate, and available to the people and communities they love.
